What does it mean to be a maker?

Being a Maker means that we are innovators, inventors and creators of our future! Our students need not be consumers marching to the beat of those who sell but they will be the shapers of a future that utilizes their skills, talents and expertise to make a better world.

What are you doing in the Maker community?

The Coachella Valley Unified School District have been supporting the Maker's Movement since it's inception. We have students working to transform our system of education to one that creates and makes instead of a system that rewards the person with the best memory. Projects that we are working on include redesigning urban cities and schools using Minecraft. Students are winning Science competitions because they have create environmentally friendly wind turbines to generate eco-friendly energy. Students projects include the creating and design of robots using 3D printing and coding! Our contribution and participation in The National Week of Making will display these projects to a national audience!

Who are some other Makers you admire and why?

We admire makers such as Thomas Edison, Elon Musk and Steve Jobs because of their willingness to visualize the future through applications, inventions and goals that others believe is unreachable. They epitomize "The Mother of Invention is Necessity" adage and they display the curiosity that leads to invention and discovery!
