What does it mean to be a maker?
A maker has the power to defy modern notions of what a product is, who a manufacturer is, and what problems get solved with technology.
What are you doing in the Maker community?
I work with people and organizations in the developing world to apply customized technology to hyperlocal problems. I have deployed open source hardware for flood monitoring in Honduras; trained civil society organizations in Cambodia on building hardware to further their missions; and worked with partners to support a new Fab Lab in Jordan to boost the business community.
Who are some other Makers you admire and why?
Bunnie Huang is dissecting the manufacturing ecosystem of Shenzhen, China and helping the rest of us understand and leverage it. Limor Fried is showing the world how to build a successful business on openness and showing people how to make their own stuff.
